What are Your Options for Spider Vein Treatment?

Spider veins are small, dysfunctional blood vessels that can form on the surface of the legs or your face. They normally do not cause symptoms, but many people would like to have them treated for cosmetic purposes. These veins may appear as red, purple, or blue and may look like webs, thin lines, or branches. If you are currently dealing with spider veins, you have some spider vein treatment options available to you.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a proven spider vein treatment used for the treatment of small varicose veins and spider veins. Using ultrasound, we may find the source of the spider vein. We then inject a chemical into the vein to destroy it. The walls of the vein will collapse, sealing the spider vein. Your body will then reroute blood flow to healthy blood vessels. The destroyed spider vein will shrink, and your body will naturally absorb it eventually. The entire process can be carried out in the comfort of our office.

After your procedure, you will be able to get up and move around. In fact, you may be encouraged to walk around a bit to prevent blood clot formation. You may also need to wear a compression garment for a set amount of time to help with your recovery.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy for spider vein treatment is a procedure that has been developed more recently than sclerotherapy. The goals of the procedure are the same: to remove the problem vein to improve your appearance. Instead of a chemical, we use a laser to direct thermal energy into the area, leading to the vein’s collapse and eventual absorption by your body.

Following certain aftercare instructions will help to enhance muscle circulation and lower your risk of developing blood clots. It’s good to keep moving and maintain your normal activity level.
