Chemical peels are medical-grade solutions that we apply to the patient’s skin to remove damaged skin tissue. A peel can be used to treat conditions ranging from wrinkles to scars to hyperpigmentation and more. It does not require surgery, and many peels allow you to return to work or your daily life fairly quickly.
Chemical Peels Treatment
There are quite a few peels available with varying ingredients, strengths of concentration, and depths of penetration. The type that would work best for you and your individual needs can be determined at your initial consultation with us.
Although every peel is different, there are some basic things to keep in mind. Each peel contains a chemical solution that is left on your skin for a certain period of time. This will break up the molecular bonds holding some surface skin tissue together. This skin will be replaced by fresher skin tissue displaying fewer imperfections.
The Superficial Peel
As the name suggests, a superficial chemical peel works only on the outer layer of your skin. In fact, the skin layer affected by this type of peel is not even living tissue. It is actually composed of dead skin cells, oils, and cellular debris. This material can have a negative effect on your complexion and make your skin appear dull and lifeless. Removing it with a light peel allows your skin to glow.
The Medium Peel
Medium chemical peels normally contain moderate-strength acids. They involve the removal of portions of the epidermis skin layer to trigger the formation of fresh skin tissue. Medium peels are normally used for the treatment of light scars, light lines and wrinkles, and other blemishes.
The Deep Peel
Deep peels are a more aggressive form of treatment for stubborn skin complaints like deep acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and deeper wrinkles. A deep peel will typically contain a strong acid to remove both the epidermis and some of the dermis skin layer.
Chemical Peels Aftercare
Once you have undergone a peel treatment, you will want to obtain the best results possible. Since your skin will be somewhat vulnerable while healing, it’s important to treat it very gently. Wear a good sunscreen and limit your time outdoors. Use a good moisturizer, and make sure to avoid any activities that could excessively dry out your skin.
