Laser hair removal is a non-invasive method of destroying unwanted hair follicles. If the follicle is damaged while in an active phase, the follicle itself will be discarded as waste material. This is the best way to get rid of hair on the arms, legs, and other areas of the body. There’s no need for continuous plucking or periodic waxing. Most of our clients here in Elk Grove are thrilled with the results they experience.
We cannot perform this type of procedure without first consulting with you and examining the areas of concern. Everyone’s hair is different. The actual tone of the hair and follicle determines the strength and settings of the methods we use. We encourage you to contact us to schedule a consultation so that we can give you realistic outcome expectations.
How Lasers Stop Hair Growth
Hair strands are produced by follicles in the skin layers. When the follicle is active, it produces a mass amount of cells that get squished together to form a flat shape resembling a penny. These cell “pennies” themselves get packed together to form a hair strand. By the time the strand begins to lengthen, all of the cells are dead.
This growth only happens when the follicle is active. When it goes into a resting phase, the strand doesn’t lengthen. During a really long inactive phase, the hair strand falls out. This is why we lose a little hair each day. During an active phase, the follicle is darker because it contains a lot of pigment. This is the right time for the follicle to be targeted by a laser beam. It will absorb far more energy than when it’s in a resting phase because it will reflect far less light energy. Once the follicle is damaged, it soon dies.
Procedural Steps
After we examine the hair you want removed, we can calibrate the laser instrument according to the tone of the hair and follicle. This allows us to direct the laser beam at the follicle without damaging the adjacent tissues. Beams of energy from the laser can destroy multiple follicles at the same time.
This non-invasive procedure can purposely damage hundreds of follicles in just minutes. Since not all of the follicles in a given area are in an active phase at the same time, we will need to schedule a series of treatments to achieve the best result.
